I figured it out. Since SNL sucks without Tina Fey, Lorne Michaels, in a conspiracy with the GOP, arranged to have the highly mockable Sarah Palin chosen as the Republican candidate for Vice President. I can see it now: If McCain/Palin wins, Saturday Night Live can't resist doing bits like this one. It's all a plot to drag Tina back to SNL.
